Mount Vernon police arrest man for shooting at house and attempted arson

MOUNT VERNON, Ill. (KBSI) – On October 3, at approximately 7:37 a.m., Mount Vernon Police Department officers responded to a report of gunfire in the 1100 block of Welkins.

Upon arrival, they discovered a residence with multiple gunshot holes.

Further investigation revealed evidence of an attempted fire in an adjacent outbuilding.

Following a thorough investigation by patrol officers and detectives, 33-year-old Deaaron Rudd of Mount Vernon, Illinois, was taken into custody at South 12th Street and Prairie at 4:16 p.m.

Rudd faces charges of:

  • – Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm
  • – Arson

Additionally, Rudd was on Mandatory Supervised Release (parole) from the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) at the time of his arrest.

An IDOC warrant has been issued for parole violation.

The swift response and collaborative effort of the Mount Vernon Police Department ensured the safe apprehension of the suspect.
