MSHP reviewing arrest in Kennett after suspect died on way to hospital

KENNETT, Mo. (KBSI) – The Missouri State Highway Patrol is reviewing an arrest after a Kennett man died.

Kennett police officers arrested Derrick J. Harrell, 59, of Kennett for several outstanding felony warrants late in the evening on Aug. 30.

During the arrest, police say Harrell ran into a vacant home and a K-9 was used to bring him into custody.

EMS cleared Harrell to be transported to the hospital for treatment of a dog bite.

While he was being transported to the Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital in Hayti Harrell experienced a medical event and died, according to the Kennett Police Department.
