MSHP winter car seat safety: layer up wisely

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI)- The Missouri State Highway Patrol is reminding parents on proper winter car seat safety.

Parents are advised to exercise caution when securing children in car seats while wearing winter coats.

Bulky coats can render the harness ineffective, increasing the risk of ejection during a crash.

To keep children safe and warm:

— Dress them in thin layers
— Avoid bulky coats under the harness
— Cover them with a blanket instead
