Mt. Vernon holds dedication ceremony for new police department

MT. VERNON, Ill. (KBSI) – The city of Mt. Vernon held a dedication ceremony for a new police department on Friday, July 7.
It is located at S. 27th & Logan Street.
Several dignitaries spoke at the event. Officials held a ribbon cutting and gave tours of the new facility.
Some even tried out the new virtual reality police training equipment.
Members of the public should not report to the Mt. Vernon Police Department at 211 North 10th Street to speak with an officer. Anyone wanting to speak with an officer at the station needs to report to the Jefferson County Justice Center at 911 Casey.
“It did my heart good to see this day happen,” said Sheriff Bullard on Facebook. “For over 21 years I worked in the old department at N. 10th & Harrison Street. For the type of crime and sheer volume of work MVPD handles, I knew this was long overdue. Congratulations Chief Page, Assistant Chief Brands, and the officers of the Mt. Vernon Police Department! Today is a well earned day for you all! Thank you Mayor Lewis and members of the city council for investing in your officers. I, for one, certainly appreciate it!”
