Mt. Vernon issues citywide boil water advisory

MT. VERNON, Ill., (KBSI) — The City of Mt. Vernon has issued a precautionary boil water advisory due to low water pressure, officials announced Tuesday.

Effective Date and Time: Sept. 16, 2025, at 10 a.m.
Area Affected: System-wide — every customer served by the City of Mt. Vernon Water.
Special Considerations: Hospitals, nursing homes, factories, and schools located within the affected area are included.
Anticipated Duration: 48 hours.

Residents are advised to boil water for at least five minutes before using it for drinking, cooking, or food preparation. City officials said the precaution is necessary to protect public health.

The advisory will remain in place until all required testing is completed and cleared under Illinois Environmental Protection Agency regulations. A follow-up announcement will be made when the order is lifted.
