Mt. Vernon man arrested after police find stolen gun during Carbondale foot patrol

CARBONDALE, Ill., (KBSI) — Carbondale Police officers arrested a Mt. Vernon man Sunday after finding two firearms, one of which was reported stolen, during a foot patrol in the 700 block of East Grand Avenue.
According to police, officers observed a handgun in plain view inside a parked vehicle at a local business. When they attempted to detain a man associated with the vehicle — identified as Albert Thomas Jr., 20, of Mt. Vernon — Thomas fled on foot but was quickly apprehended.
Officers said Thomas was carrying a second firearm at the time of his arrest. One of the recovered weapons was confirmed to be stolen out of Missouri.
Thomas was taken into custody and charged with unlawful use of weapons, aggravated unlawful use of weapons, possession of a stolen firearm, and resisting or obstructing police. He was booked into the Jackson County Jail pending a detention hearing.
