Mt. Vernon man arrested on child pornography, sexual abuse charges

MT. VERNON, Ill., (KBSI) — Christopher A. Milburn, 33, was arrested Thursday morning by Mt. Vernon police at his residence, 2117 Waltonville Rd, on an active Jefferson County warrant.

The warrant charges Milburn with aggravated criminal sexual abuse and five counts of possession of child pornography. He was taken to the Jefferson County Jail ahead of a pre-trial detention hearing.

The arrest follows a Sheriff’s Office investigation into child pornography allegations, sparked by a Cybertip report in May 2024. The probe involved search warrants for electronic records and Milburn’s residence, which yielded electronic devices with evidence of criminal activity [1).

Allegations also surfaced that Milburn had inappropriate sexual contact with a 14-year-old student while working at Mt. Vernon Township High School in 2013. The case file has been forwarded to the Jefferson County State’s Attorney’s Office seeking criminal charges.

Milburn is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
