Mt. Vernon man facing trespassing charge
MT. VERNON, Ill. (KBSI) – A Mt. Vernon man faces a trespassing charge after authorities were called.
Dewayne E. Corbett, 44, of Mt. Vernon faces a charge of felony trespassing.
Deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office assisted by officers of the Mt. Vernon Police Department responded to a report of trespassing in progress with a possible a gun that had been shot in the 11000 block of E. Stone Road in Mt. Vernon around 1:41 p.m. on Monday, February 19.
Corbett was still on scene when deputies arrived.
It was confirmed a handgun was fired by one of the victims while the offender tried to force his way into the building after damaging the exterior of the home.
Corbett received very minor wounds and refused medical treatment, according to deputies.
Corbett was taken to the Jefferson County Justice Center.
Deputies investigated and say Corbett tried to enter at least two other dwellings before his attempted forced entry on E. Stone Rd.
He was taken to the jail to await his pretrial detention hearing.
