Mt. Vernon man taken into custody after stand-off

MT. VERNON, Ill., (KBSI) — Authorities responded to a domestic disturbance call early Wednesday at a residence in Mt. Vernon, leading to the arrest of a 19-year-old man.

Chance G. Cruise was taken into custody after a standoff with law enforcement. He faces charges of domestic battery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and reckless discharge of a firearm.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the call at 2:30 a.m. at 14504 N. Old Union Ln. Cruise allegedly fired a gun multiple times at the rear of the dwelling before barricading himself inside.

A search warrant was obtained, and members of the High-Risk Team breached the front door, locating Cruise with the help of a drone. He surrendered without further incident.

Cruise was transported to the Jefferson County Jail, where he is being held pending a pre-trial detention hearing.

He is considered innocent until proven guilty.
