Mt. Vernon police arrest suspect in connection with Sunday shooting

MT. VERNON, Ill., (KBSI) — Authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting early Sunday in the 600 block of South 15th Street.

Jamaro J. Kemmerling, 26, of Mt. Vernon, was taken into custody and charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm by a repeat felony offender.

The investigation is ongoing, with detectives developing leads and gathering evidence. Additional arrests and charges are anticipated.

Kemmerling is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
