MT. VERNON, Ill., (KBSI) — A 19-year-old man and a juvenile have been arrested in connection with a residential burglary in Jefferson County, authorities said.

Mt. Vernon police said officers encountered Brian E. Needy, 19, and a 15-year-old male Tuesday evening in the 2700 block of Logan Street. Needy was taken into custody on suspicion of residential burglary following a sheriff’s office investigation into a burglary reported earlier that day in the 21000 block of North George Lane in Dix.

The juvenile, who was also wanted on a DCFS warrant, was arrested in the same burglary case involving the theft of a firearm. After processing, he was transported to a juvenile detention center in Winnebago County.

In addition, the juvenile faces charges from a Sept. 13 single-vehicle crash at East Liberty Road and North Dartmouth Lane that left five passengers injured, some seriously. He is accused of leaving the scene and cited for aggravated reckless driving, illegal transportation of alcohol, speeding, improper lane usage and driving without a valid license.

Both suspects remain in custody pending hearings. Authorities said they are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
