MARSHALL COUNTY, Ky., (KBSI) — A Tennessee man was taken into custody early Sunday following a multi-county pursuit that began in Marshall County and ended in Paducah, authorities said.

Deputies with the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office were called during the early morning hours of Feb. 1 to the 5000 block of U.S. Highway 68 West in the Palma community for a report of a suspicious vehicle. Upon arrival, a deputy found a man passed out behind the wheel of a white Ford pickup truck.

The driver was identified as Christopher Campbell of Tennessee. Authorities said the deputy believed Campbell was under the influence when contact was made. Campbell refused commands to exit the vehicle and backed up the truck, striking the deputy with the open driver’s door before fleeing the scene.

Deputies said Campbell traveled westbound on U.S. 68 toward Paducah’s south side, leaving the roadway multiple times, nearly striking a bridge and driving for much of the pursuit in the oncoming lane of traffic. A deputy attempted a PIT maneuver after Campbell nearly struck a house, but the attempt was unsuccessful.

The pursuit ended on Wayne Sullivan Drive in Paducah, where Campbell crashed the pickup truck into a business and fled on foot. After a brief chase, he was taken into custody.

Authorities later learned the pickup truck had been reported stolen out of Tennessee. Campbell faces charges from the Paducah Police Department, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office for multiple offenses.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office thanked Marshall County E-911, the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office, the Paducah Police Department and Mercy Regional EMS for their assistance.
