Multiple Crashes Snarl Traffic on I-55 Southbound

CAPE GIRARDEAU COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) — A series of crashes involving 10 vehicles occurred Monday on Interstate 55 southbound between the 91- and 95-mile markers, according to preliminary reports from authorities.

The first crash happened near the 91-mile marker as construction was taking place, when a driver failed to yield while merging onto I-55. The initial collision caused traffic to back up, leading to several additional crashes in the area.

One juvenile was transported for evaluation. Additional patients were transported with minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Cape Girardeau police said full crash reports are still being completed.
