PADUCAH, Ky. (KBSI) — A man accused in a fatal domestic violence shooting has been returned to Kentucky following his extradition from Illinois, according to the Paducah Police Department.
Detectives said they were notified March 4 that a governor’s warrant authorizing Phillip Whitnel’s extradition had been approved.
Paducah police detectives transported Whitnel to the McCracken County Jail on Thursday, where he was served with an indictment warrant charging him with murder involving domestic violence and violation of a Kentucky emergency protective order or domestic violence order.
The charges stem from the Dec. 13, 2025, shooting death of Stephanie Stacey, police said.
