Murphysboro firefighters battle two blazes in 24 hours
MURPHYSBORO, Ill., (KBSI) — Murphysboro firefighters responded to two significant fires within a 24-hour period, containing a high-rise apartment fire Tuesday afternoon and battling a fully involved house fire early Wednesday morning.
The apartment fire, reported on North 13th Street during a severe thunderstorm, was confined to a single unit.
The house fire, reported at 3:45 a.m. on Hortense Street, was fully involved upon arrival. Firefighters received assistance from the Carbondale Fire Department, Murphysboro-Pomona-Somerset Fire Protection District and the Jackson County Ambulance Service.
Both fires are under investigation.
