Murphysboro man pleads guilty to aggravated robbery, burglary

JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – A Murphysboro man pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery, burglary and multiple misdemeanor offenses.
Justin Macak, 22, of Murphysboro pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery, burglary and multiple misdemeanor offenses for a total of 13 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, according to Jackson County State’s Attorney Joseph A. Cervantez.
The Murphysboro Police Department was dispatched to 2044 Rainbow Drive in Murphysboro in reference to a burglary of a vehicle on March 16.
Officers learned that someone saw two people, one being a male, wearing an orange and brown hoodie with a backpack and using a flashlight, looking through a 2014 Dodge vehicle.
The owner of the vehicle confirmed he was missing several items including his wallet and debit card.
One of the suspects was located travelling North on foot and was identified as Justin Macak.
Macak had active Jackson County warrants and was arrested.
Officers searched Macak and his belongings. Officer found the wallet and debit card inside the backpack.
They connected him to an earlier robbery that occurred in February.
On February 29, the Jackson County Sherriff’s Office was dispatched to 334 Flanigan Road in Murphysboro in reference to a robbery of a Dominos’ Delivery Driver.
Deputies learned that two armed men approached the victim and robbed her of the food and delivery bag.
They say Macak was armed with a construction level while the other wielded a hammer.
After Macak was arrested, deputies took possession of his phone and found evidence of the delivery order that had not been paid, as well as text messages indicating his plan to rob the delivery driver.
Macak was also identified by several different people as a participant in the robbery.
State’s Attorney Cervantez explained that the dollar value of the robbery is the least of his concerns.
“Law enforcement will do everything possible to support our local businesses and keep the community safe,” Cervantez said. “This was a violent crime, and law enforcement did an outstanding job connecting the pieces and holding this defendant accountable.”
