MURPHYSBORO, Ill. (KBSI) – A Murphysboro woman was sentenced on Wednesday to 50 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for first-degree murder.

Alexis N. Stallman, 41, was sentenced to 50 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Stallman pleaded guilty in 2023 to first-degree murder of Edward A. Stallman.

On July 20, 2022, Alexis N. Stallman was arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree murder and one count of aggravated domestic battery in the death of Edward A. Stallman.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded at approximately 10:49 a.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2022 for reports of a crash at an Illinois Department of Transportation work zone located at the intersection of Highway 127 and Ava Road in Murphysboro.

Edward A. Stallman was rushed to the emergency room, but appeared to have sustained a “puncture wound to his chest” that was not consistent with a vehicular crash injury.

Edward A. Stallman was pronounced dead shortly after arriving to the emergency room.

Witnesses revealed that Stallman came to the IDOT work site and reportedly became engaged in a verbal fight with Edward A. Stallman just before the crash.

Stallman’s vehicle was still on the scene when detectives discovered a bloodied kitchen knife in her purse on the front passenger floorboard.

DNA analysis revealed that the blood was from Edward A. Stallman.

A sentencing hearing was held on January 17. The court sentenced Stallman to a total of 50 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections where she will serve 100 percent of the sentence.

The investigation was led by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the Illinois State Police and prosecuted by Jackson County State’s Attorney Joseph A. Cervantez.
