Murray Police K-9 Bonnie receives donated bulletproof vest

MURRAY, Ky., (KBSI) — K-9 Bonnie of the Murray Police Department has received a bullet- and stab-protective vest through a donation from the nonprofit Vested Interest in K9s Inc..
The vest was sponsored by Vested Interest in K9s and is embroidered with the message, “Honoring those who served and sacrificed.”
Vested Interest in K9s, established in 2009, is a 501(c)(3) charity that provides protective vests and assistance to law enforcement dogs across the United States. The organization said the vests are U.S.-made, custom-fitted and certified by the National Institute of Justice.
Since its founding, the nonprofit has provided more than 6,300 vests valued at nearly $6.9 million to K-9 units in all 50 states. The program is open to certified law enforcement dogs at least 20 months old, including those whose current vests have expired.
The organization estimates there are approximately 30,000 law enforcement K-9s nationwide.
