CALLOWAY COUNTY, Ky., (KBSI) — A Murray woman was arrested Sunday following a welfare check that escalated into an assault on a law enforcement officer, authorities said.

According to the Calloway County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was dispatched at about 11 a.m. Dec. 28, 2025, to a residence on Cambridge Drive to conduct a welfare check. Upon arrival, the deputy observed Rebekah Poteet, 37, to be intoxicated.

Emergency medical services were requested, and Poteet initially agreed to be transported voluntarily. The deputy was assisted at the scene by the Murray Police Department and the Kentucky State Police.

While being escorted to the ambulance, Poteet became agitated, began throwing items and shouting slurs, and actively resisted officers, authorities said. During the encounter, Poteet allegedly bit an officer, resulting in a shoulder injury.

Poteet was transported to Murray-Calloway County Hospital, where she was medically cleared, and was later taken to the Calloway County Detention Center.

She is charged with third-degree assault of a police officer, a Class D felony, and resisting arrest.
