National Teen Driver Safety Week highlights roundabout education

PADUCAH, Ky., (KBSI) — As part of National Teen Driver Safety Week (Oct. 19–25), transportation officials visited high schools in McCracken and Graves counties to help young drivers build confidence navigating roundabouts.

With about 18 to 20 roundabout projects currently in design — including locations at old U.S. 60 and U.S. 60 near Tractor Supply in Paducah, as well as along the KY 121 Bypass in Mayfield — officials say it’s important for teens to become familiar with these safer intersection designs, as many will travel these routes to and from school in the coming years.

According to statewide data, communities that have replaced traditional intersections with roundabouts have seen a 37% reduction in overall crashes, a 75% reduction in injury crashes, and up to a 90% reduction in fatal crashes.
