New addition to county jail and historic courthouse

JACKSON, Mo. (KBSI) – In one week, Cape Girardeau County will celebrate a new addition to the county jail as well as the newly renovated 1908 courthouse.

A groundbreaking ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 9 at the Cape Girardeau Sheriff’s Office.

The expansion and renovation were badly needed.

The jail project is expected to wrap by the end of 2024.

Renovations at the old courthouse are expected to be complete in the summer of 2024.
