New Madrid County deputies warn of phone scam involving impersonator

NEW MADRID COUNTY, Mo., (KBSI) — The New Madrid County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam involving someone impersonating a law enforcement officer.
Officials said callers are claiming to be “Sgt. Brown” with the sheriff’s office, but authorities confirmed no one by that name is employed there and the calls are part of an ongoing scam.
The sheriff’s office also reminded the public that law enforcement agencies do not request payments for fines or bonds by phone or text.
