CONRAN, Mo., (KBSI) — A New Madrid County deputy arrested a man on parole after he was found inside a resident’s vehicle and later attempted to flee and fight with law enforcement, according to the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a home in Conran on the evening of Nov. 9 after residents reported suspicious activity. The homeowners told deputies they discovered a man, later identified as Jared Childers, inside one of their vehicles. Childers, a registered sex offender currently on parole for statutory rape, fled the scene after being confronted.
A short time later, a deputy located Childers in the parking lot of a gas station in Portageville. Authorities said he tried to run from the deputy and then resisted arrest, resulting in a brief struggle before being taken into custody.
New Madrid County Prosecutor Andrew Lawson charged Childers with second-degree burglary and resisting arrest. He is being held on a $75,000 cash-only bond.
Sheriff’s officials said several residents in the Conran area had previously expressed concerns about Childers’ suspicious behavior. Sheriff Casey explained that those concerns proved warranted in this case.
“During my campaign last year, I promised that we would go on the offensive and take the fight to the criminals, and I intend to keep that promise,” the sheriff said.
