NEW MADRID, Mo. (KBSI) – New Madrid police ask for the public’s help after a man was shot.

Police received a call around 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday, December 20 around 8:15 p.m. about a man being treated for a gunshot wound at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

The man said he had been shot by an unknown assailant while walking on Main Street, but refused to give any further details, according to police.

Officers responded the area could not find any evidence of a shooting.

A short time later, officers responded to the victim’s girlfriend’s apartment and found one spent shell casing and a small amount of blood.

The shooting was captured by surveillance cameras in the area. Police say it revealed the shooting actually took place in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Vandenvender Ave. which contradicted the statement provided by the victim.

Video evidence shows two men get out of an Infiniti Q60 and approach the victim.

The “victim” and two other men became involved in some type of dispute, according to police.

When the two men ran back toward their car, one of them fired a shot striking the man in the shoulder.

Police say all parties involved are refusing to cooperate with the investigation.

Anyone who recognizes the vehicle from the surveillance footage is asked to contact the New Madrid Police Department at (573) 748-5901.
