New Madrid police warn of suspicious packages sent to resident

NEW MADRID, Mo. (KBSI) – New Madrid police officers warn the public of a suspicious packages that were sent to a resident’s home.

A New Madrid resident received two packages in the mail from out of state that had the resident’s name on it.

The resident had not ordered anything and was suspicious. The resident contacted police.

Police say the package contained what is believed to be fentanyl. Lab results on the substance are pending.

If you receive a suspicious package, don’t open it. Call police immediately at 573-748-5901.

Police say it is possible that more packages may have been sent to other addresses in New Madrid.

The case was turned over toe the Southeast Missouri Drug Task Force for investigation.
