Nominations open for Cape Girardeau’s 2026 Endangered Buildings List

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) — The Cape Girardeau Historic Preservation Commission is accepting nominations for its 2026 Endangered Buildings List.
The commission established the list in 2012 to raise awareness of buildings and structures with historic value that are believed to be at risk of loss because of significant deterioration or potential demolition.
Nomination forms are available at Historic Preservation Commission – City of Cape Girardeau or in person at the Planning Services Division at City Hall. Completed forms may be submitted by email to cityplanning@cityofcape.org
or by mail to the Cape Girardeau Historic Preservation Commission, 44 N. Lorimier St., Cape Girardeau, MO 63701.
Nominations must include the building address or a clear description of the location if no address exists; an explanation of the building’s historic significance; an explanation of why the building is endangered; suggested actions that could be taken to preserve the building; and at least one photo showing the building’s current condition. Electronic photo submissions must be in PDF, JPEG or TIFF format.
The deadline to submit nominations is March 6, 2026. The commission will review nominations March 18 and is scheduled to adopt the final list April 15. Both meetings are open to the public and will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall, 44 N. Lorimier St., subject to change.
