CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) – Notre Dame Regional High School has announced plans to launch its first-ever football program, marking a new milestone in the school’s tradition of athletic excellence.
The program will begin with a junior varsity team in the fall of 2027, followed by a varsity team in the fall of 2028. In addition, the school plans to introduce a marching band by 2028 to enhance student engagement and school spirit.
“This is an exciting time for Notre Dame,” said Athletic Director Jeff Graviett. “Adding football to our already outstanding athletic program will bring new energy to campus and create more opportunities for student involvement.”
Notre Dame President Tim Garner said the expansion reflects the school’s mission to offer students a well-rounded, faith-based education with diverse opportunities.
“The addition of football and band programs marks an exciting new era for Notre Dame Regional High School,” Garner said. “Combined with our esports team, competitive cheer, and FFA programs, Notre Dame continues to grow as a place where students from southeast Missouri and southern Illinois can learn, compete, and thrive.”
Notre Dame currently offers 22 sports and has earned 19 team state championships. The addition of football demonstrates the school’s ongoing commitment to fostering leadership, teamwork, and faith among students.
The school is now accepting applications for a head football coach to lead the new program. Interested candidates should submit a resume and cover letter to Athletic Director Jeff Graviett at jeffgraviett@notredamecape.org.
