November marks the start of Missouri’s Firearms Deer Season

FOX23 News at 9 p.m.

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo., (KBSI) – Missouri’s firearms deer season begins Nov. 15, and state officials are reminding hunters to follow all safety rules and hunting regulations to ensure a safe and successful season.

During firearms deer season, hunters are required to wear hunter orange, including both a shirt, vest, or coat and a hat. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) also strongly encourages non-hunters in or near hunting areas to wear orange for visibility and safety. Shooting hours are from one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset.

Hunters and citizens are encouraged to report any suspected wildlife violations to their local conservation agent or through MDC’s Operation Game Thief (OGT) hotline at 1-800-392-1111. Reports can be made anonymously, and rewards ranging from $50 to $1,000 may be offered for information leading to an arrest.

MDC defines poaching as the illegal taking of wildlife — including hunting out of season, without a valid permit, or in violation of the Wildlife Code of Missouri. Operation Game Thief helps Missourians protect the state’s natural resources and preserve wildlife for future generations.

For questions about hunting regulations, contact your local conservation agent. A list of agents by county is available on MDC’s website.

Those interested in learning more about hunting or conservation topics can email Jake.Colehour@mdc.mo.gov or reach out to local MDC staff.
