NSSC boys volleyball team hosts car wash fundraiser for national tournament trip
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – The NSSC boys volleyball team departs for Salt Lake City next weekend, but Saturday’s car wash fundraiser provided one last chance, and a rare one, for the entire team to get together and raise some money for their trip.
It hasn’t quite set in for Cooper Worley that his team is headed to the Boys Junior National Championship.
“We’re going to Salt Lake City, Utah, for nationals, and we’re a volleyball team out of Cape Girardeau,” he said. That’s crazy.”
He also said the car wash was a great way for the team to bond before making the trip out west.
“It’s a great experience for everybody that wants to feel like they can fit in before nationals, and it just really gets that synergy going with everybody,” he said.
Head coach Emmanuel Reyes echoed this notion, saying that having players from up to an hour away from each other doesn’t allow for many opportunities like this.
“Just having everybody together in one place, it’s not something we see very often, so it’s nice to have, especially outside of tournaments and practice where we’re supposed to be more focused on volleyball instead of just having fun,” Reyes said.
Worley said he was pleasantly surprised at just how fun the car wash was.
“If I wasn’t working at a pizza place back at home, I think I would love to work at like a car wash or something because it’s great,” he said. “I love it.”
And the car wash raised $568 in just four hours.
“I just want to say thank you to the community, to the parents of these boys, and to just everyone to helped make this possible,” Reyes said. “It’s been really fun, and we’ve been able to raise some money to just help make it possible, so thank you.”
The team leaves for Salt Lake City on July 2.
