UNION CITY, Tenn., (KBSI) — The Obion County Sheriff’s Office and Obion County School System say a social media post that prompted an increased law enforcement presence at Lake Road School Monday morning was determined not to be a credible threat.

According to the sheriff’s office, the Union City Police Department alerted deputies to a post reading, “Get Ready Lake Road Tomorrow is Going to be a Party.” Out of an abundance of caution, additional officers were deployed to Lake Road School to ensure the safety of students and staff.

The school system issued a mass text and automated call to parents notifying them of the situation.

After a joint investigation, officials determined the post originated outside the local area and was not directed specifically at Lake Road School. The Obion County Sheriff’s Office, working with the Union City Police Department, Homeland Security, and the Obion County School System, concluded there was no credible threat.

“The safety of our children remains our highest priority,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “We appreciate the cooperation and swift response of all agencies involved.”

The Obion County School System also thanked parents for their patience and local law enforcement for their quick response.
