Obion, TN man faces charges in Graves County, KY after nails strewn over road

GRAVES COUNTY, Ky. (KBSI) – An Obion, Tennessee man faces several difference charges in Graves County after a woman called reporting her ex-husband would not leave her home.

Jeffery W. Ashley, 61, faces charges of DUI 1st offense, no insurance 1st offense, possession of marijuana, possession of controlled substance 1st degree, 1st offense – methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia – buy/possess, criminal littering, wanton endangerment 2nd degree and criminal mischief 3rd degree.

On December 9 around 9:45 p.m. deputies from the Graves County Sheriff’s Office responded to an address on Randview Drive just west of Mayfield for a disturbance.

The caller said that her ex-husband was at her home and would not leave.

While responding to the call and traveling on South Sutton Lane, a deputy came upon two to three sections of the road that had a large amount of roofing nails scattered on it.

The deputy tried to quickly remove as many of the nails as possible so he could continue to the call. While doing this, he was injured by a nail piercing his shoe and becoming lodged in his foot.

Deputies were able to make it to the caller’s home where it was discovered the ex-husband had left in a vehicle before deputies arrived, according to the Graves County Sheriff’s Office.

The caller told deputies that her ex-husband, Jeffery W. Ashley, told her that he was going to throw nails in her driveway so they would damage her tires when she left the home.

When the caller told Ashley that she called law enforcement, authorities say he told her that he had thrown nails all over the road and he hoped that the police ran over them.

As other deputies were responding to the area, they found Ashley’s vehicle going southbound on Interstate 69 near the 21-mile marker.

They conducted a traffic stop and found Ashley to be the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle. After a brief investigation, he was determined to be under the influence, according to Graves County Sheriff’s deputies.

Deputies found methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle.

Ashley also admitted to deputies that he intentionally threw numerous roofing nails into the road on South Sutton Lane, according tothe sheriff’s office.

He was taken to the Graves County RC Center and then taken to an out of county facility.

Deputy Austin Ramage and Deputy Tyler Crane investigated the complaint. They were assisted by Deputy Chad Hall and Deputy Ben Doran.

Deputy Crane was treated at Jackson Purchase Medical Center for his injury and was released.
