One dead after house explosion in Energy

ENERGY, Ill., (KBSI) — One person was killed Tuesday evening when an explosion destroyed a home and damaged several nearby buildings in Energy.

The Energy police and fire departments responded around 7 p.m. to the intersection of West College and McGinnis streets.

Officials said the home at the intersection was completely destroyed. The extent of damage to neighboring properties was not immediately available.

Roads remain blocked while investigators process the scene. Drivers should avoid the area.

Multiple local, state and federal agencies are assisting, including the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, Illinois State Police, Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation. Additional information will be released by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office or the state fire marshal.
