One man is in custody following a deadly UTV crash

JACKSON COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) – One suspect is in custody after a deadly crash involving a UTV.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office on October 26, 2024, around 11:56 pm deputies responded to the area of Front Street and 25th Avenue along the levee near Grand Tower for a report of a crash involving a UTV.
After investigation it was learned that a blue Honda four passenger UTV operated by Rusty Huffman age 36 of Gorham along with passenger’s identified as Kayla Clover age 29 of Gorham, Nicholas Bastien age 31 of Murphysboro, and Sarah Bolter age 38 of Murphysboro overturned while traveling on the levee.
Bolter sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene.
Bastien was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for his injuries.
Huffman was treated an area hospital and then arrested and taken to the Jackson County Jail.
Complaints were submitted to the Jackson County States Attorney for Aggravated DUI, Reckless Driving, and Failure to remain at the scene of an injury crash.
Arch Air Medical Services and The Tower Rock Fire Department also arrived on scene.
This investigation is ongoing.
