Open house puts downtown Cape Girardeau commercial properties on display

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KBSI) – With growth comes opportunity.

This notion was at the heart of Old Town Cape’s Commercial Property Open House on Thursday.

The event featured a dozen vacant properties, which prospective business or property owners could tour.

One of those properties was originally a Montgomery Ward retail shop. Brenda Kluesner, who is part of the group leasing the property, says the history and growth opportunities are in abundance with this particular property as well as others.

“The history and story behind some of these buildings is amazing,” she said. “I love the idea of bringing them back to life.

“We are excit

ed about getting the old downtown community revitalized and brought back to life and draw some activity to the businesses that are already existing here. We’re excited to be a part of all of the great things that Old Town Cape is doing for the community.”

Deena Ring, who is leasing another property that was part of this open house, says bringing new people and businesses to the area will be beneficial to the community as a whole.

Deena Ring, Business Owner: “I think when we have more opportunities it will bring people in from the surrounding area, from other states. I think long-term this could become more of a destination area. I think it’s good for the economy as well as business as a whole.”
