Opening day arrives for Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo

SIKESTON, Mo., (KBSI) — The Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo returns Wednesday for four nights of rodeo competition, live music and family activities.

The event runs Aug. 5-8 at the Sikeston Rodeo Grounds, 1220 N. Ingram Road. This year’s concert lineup includes:

Wednesday: Tucker Wetmore; gates open at 6 p.m.
Thursday: Blake Whiten; gates open at 6 p.m.
Friday: Hudson Westbrook; gates open at 5:30 p.m.
Saturday: Braxton Keith and That Mexican OT; gates open at 5:30 p.m.

Concerts begin at 9 p.m. each night.

Other activities include a rodeo royalty meet-and-greet throughout the week, free barrel racing at 8 a.m. Thursday, a behind-the-chutes tour at 10 a.m. Friday and an autograph party at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Rodeo Museum. The Mutton Bustin’ Championship Round will take place during Saturday’s rodeo performance.

The event began in 1953 and now attracts more than 40,000 visitors annually. The Sikeston Jaycees said proceeds support charities and nonprofit organizations throughout the region, while rodeo week generates more than $8 million for area businesses.
