Orange Barrel Report February 24

FOX23 News at 9 p.m.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., (KBSI) A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) will continue lane restrictions on Interstate 24 eastbound near mile point 40.8 in Lyon County through approximately Wednesday, Mar. 4, weather permitting.

This is between Exit 40 (U.S. 62/U.S. 641) and Exit 42 at the I-24/I-69 Interchange. Crews are reinforcing support beams on the bridge over Knob Creek to allow the removal of current weight restrictions affecting 40-ton trucks and other commercial vehicles.

Beginning Friday, Feb. 27, motorists should be alert for a westbound lane restriction in the same area. Westbound work is expected to last for approximately two to three weeks. This means lane restrictions will be in place in both directions simultaneously from about Feb. 27 through March 4.

Weight limits were recently posted on the bridge following federally required recalculations of load ratings to evaluate shear stress.

The bridge remains structurally sound and safe to cross within the posted weight limits. Once repairs are completed and the structure is inspected, the cabinet expects to lift the weight restrictions.

Bridges in Fulton and Graves counties within District 1 requiring similar reinforcement will be scheduled for repairs at a later date.

Route N in Wright County will be closed as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace several culverts under the roadway.

This section of roadway is located from Route 95 to Route E. The road closure will only be place where crews are actively working.

Weather permitting, work will take place Tuesday, March 3 through Friday, March 6 from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. During this time, the road will be open to local traffic only.
