(KBSI) — The Illinois Department of Transportation will close Interstate 255 in St. Clair County for six months starting Feb. 1, weather permitting.

The closure is necessary for a reconstruction project funded by Rebuild Illinois, which will include roadway repairs, bridge repairs, safety improvements, new lighting, signing and drainage improvements.

Additionally, starting Feb. 3, the left lane of westbound U.S. 150 will be closed near the McClugage Bridge for two weeks due to demolition of the old eastbound structure.

Intermittent daytime lane closures will follow until demolition is complete.
