(KBSI) A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) plans to close KY 1203 at mile point 3.09 in Carlisle County starting Tuesday, Oct. 14 to begin work on a bridge replacement project.

The bridge over Gray Creek is located between KY 1022 and KY 1741, west of Bardwell, and is currently posted with an 8-ton weight limit.

The existing structure will be demolished and replaced with a new bridge. Weather permitting, the project is expected to be completed by the end of December.

Motorists are asked to self-detour. Approximately 167 vehicles travel this section of KY 1203 in an average day.

Southbound Interstate 55 in Cape Girardeau County will be reduced to one lane with a 12-foot width restriction as construction crews perform pavement repairs. 

This section of roadway is located from mile marker 114 to mile marker 114.4.

Weather permitting, work will take place Monday, Oct. 27 through Friday, Oct. 31 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

The work zone will be marked with signs. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution while traveling near the area.
