Outlook for 2023 Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo
SIKESTON, Mo. (KBSI) – The 71st Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo is sold out for Wednesday and Saturday.
Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo Chairman Ethan Vasquez said these nights may not be the only ones at this year’s rodeo to sell out.
“Ticket sales have been good this year,” he said. “Thursday night is trending well. Friday night is on track to maybe sell out as well. The rodeo will go on rain or shine.”
The rodeo brings in roughly $6 million and draws about 40,000 people each year, and Vasquez said attracting people to the sport is crucial to its long-term success.
“Especially the youth, preserve this great sport for cowboys and cowgirls going forward,” he said. “It’s kind of a dying art. Just getting the youth involved and learning about each event, it just means a lot to me.”
Vasquez said the Jaycees’ work doesn’t stop in putting on the best rodeo possible and doing what is right for the community.
“We’re going to continue to do good and build things and just promote this rodeo and make it bigger and better each year,” he said.
