MOUNT VERNON, Ill. (KBSI) — Illinois Department of Transportation announced Interstate 57 will be closed overnight June 1-3 near Mount Vernon to allow crews to set structural steel for the new Illinois 15 overpass.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the closures will take place nightly from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. to reduce traffic impacts.

During the closures, traffic on Interstate 57 will be detoured around the work zone using the entrance and exit ramps at the Mount Vernon interchange.

Officials said flaggers will be on site during nighttime operations to help direct traffic and maintain safety for motorists and construction crews.
