Paducah commission proclaims Hispanic Heritage Month

PADUCAH, Ky., (KBSI) — The Paducah City Commission has proclaimed Sept. 15 through Oct. 15 as Hispanic Heritage Month, recognizing the culture and contributions of people with roots in Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.

Mayor George Bray read the proclamation in English during Tuesday night’s commission meeting, followed by Myrna Redfield, president and CEO of Four Rivers Nuclear Partnership and a native of Puerto Rico, who read it in Spanish.

City officials said the proclamation honors the historical and cultural impact of Hispanic communities locally and across the nation.

Those present for the ceremony included Revenue Technician Anayeli Arellano-Tapia; Redfield; Bray; Human Rights Commission Chairman Robert Hernandez; and Revenue Technician Melanie Guardian with her daughters, Adalynn and Alexandrea.
