PADUCAH, Ky., (KBSI) — A Paducah man was arrested Thursday night after leading officers on a brief foot pursuit that ended in a creek, police said.

The incident occurred about 7 p.m. Jan. 15 after Officer Danny Kimball stopped a blue passenger car near the intersection of Broad Street and Bridge Street. Police said the driver pulled into a parking lot on Bridge Street and immediately fled on foot.

Kimball pursued the suspect, who ran down a steep embankment and entered a creek. Additional officers arrived and surrounded the area.

Police said the suspect, later identified as Jamey K. Donelson, 29, entered the creek during 25-degree weather and briefly swam across before returning toward officers, who helped him out of the water and took him into custody without further incident.

Because of exposure to cold water and below-freezing temperatures, Donelson was taken to a local hospital for evaluation before being lodged in the McCracken County Regional Jail.

Police said Donelson had two active arrest warrants, including fleeing or evading police in the third degree and fourth-degree assault involving dating violence. He was also charged with additional offenses related to the incident, including first-degree fleeing or evading police on foot, possession of a controlled substance (hydrocodone), possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and disregarding a stop sign.
