Paducah man charged with arson after two fires at same residence

PADUCAH, Ky., (KBSI) — A Paducah man has been charged with arson following two separate fires at the same residence on North 13th Street on June 18.

According to the Paducah Police Department, officers and firefighters responded to a structure fire during the morning hours at a home in the 1300 block of North 13th Street. The fire was extinguished, and investigators began examining the cause.

As the investigation progressed, detectives identified William M. Porter, 46, of Paducah, as a suspect and obtained an arrest warrant.

At approximately 6 p.m. the same day, emergency crews were called back to the residence after reports of a second structure fire.\

Detectives determined Porter intentionally set the second fire, according to police.

While first responders remained at the scene, Porter was located and taken into custody without incident.

Porter was lodged in the McCracken County Regional Jail and charged with two counts of third-degree arson.

The charges are allegations, and Porter is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
