Paducah man facing several charges after traffic stop

PADUCAH, Ky. (KBSI) – A Paducah man faces several charges after a traffic stop on Saturday.

Demetrius M. Wilson, 39, of Atkins Street in Paducah faces charges of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, resisting arrest, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol 1st offense, reckless driving,
disorderly conduct 2nd degree, disregarding a traffic control device, failure to or improper signal and failure to notify address change to Department of Transportation.

Police say a Paducah man with a prior murder conviction was in possession of a handgun when he was arrested early Saturday morning.

Officer Julia Cross saw a vehicle swerve into the opposite lane of traffic and strike a curb.

Officers determined Wilson was under the influence of alcohol and tried to arrest him.

Police say Wilson resisted officers and tried to prevent them from placing him in the back of the police car.

That’s when officers say they saw a handgun inside the driver’s side door.

Wilson was a previously convicted for a 2003 murder in McCracken County.

He was taken to the McCracken County Jail.
