Paducah police K-9 receives protective vest through charitable donation

PADUCAH, Ky., (KBSI) — Paducah Police Department announced that K-9 Karo has received a bullet- and stab-resistant vest through a charitable donation from Vested Interest in K9s, Inc..

The protective vest was sponsored by Thomas Infante of Cold Springs, Kentucky, and is embroidered with the message, “Born to Love — Trained to Serve — Loyal Always.”

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2009, provides protective vests and assistance to law enforcement K-9s and related agencies nationwide. The organization said the vests are U.S.-made, custom-fitted and certified by the National Institute of Justice.

Since its founding, Vested Interest in K9s has distributed more than 6,225 vests valued at $6.9 million to K-9s in all 50 states through private and corporate donations. The program is open to U.S. K-9s that are at least 20 months old, actively employed and certified with law enforcement or related agencies. K-9s with expired vests are also eligible.

Each vest weighs an average of 4 to 5 pounds, has a value of $1,800 and comes with a five-year warranty. A donation of $1,050 sponsors a single vest.
