PADUCAH, Ky., (KBSI) — The Paducah Police Department has launched a free gun lock safety program aimed at promoting responsible firearm storage and reducing accidental injuries.
Through a partnership with Project ChildSafe and the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the department will distribute free gun locks and educational materials to the public.
Gun owners can pick up a free lock at the department’s lobby during regular business hours. Officials said no paperwork or personal information is required.
The department said research shows secure firearm storage, including locking guns and storing ammunition separately, can prevent nearly one-third of accidental and youth-related firearm deaths.
Officers will also distribute gun locks and provide safety information at the Paducah Farmers Market on May 9, with additional outreach events planned throughout the year.
Officials said the program is part of ongoing efforts to promote safe gun ownership and improve community safety.
