Paducah police warn of scam with ‘spoofed’ number

PADUCAH, Ky. (KBSI) – Paducah police warn residents of a scammer posing as a police officer.
Police say Tuesday, April 16, someone in Paducah was contacted by a scammer posing as a Paducah police officer.
Police say the person “spoofed” his/her phone number to show up as the Paducah Police Department and told the victim that he/she owed money to the Paducah Police Department.
The scammer asked for a large sum of money to take care of the problem.
Police remind the public that no one from the Paducah Police Department will ever ask for money over the phone nor will they ask a person to take money from the bank to buy gift cards or bitcoin to make the problem go away.
