PADUCAH, Ky., (KBSI) — Paducah Police Department reported a seventh straight year of declining crime in the city, with overall offenses down 7% in 2025 compared with the previous year.

According to the department, crime data tracked through the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting Program showed a 2% decrease in Part I crimes, which include serious offenses such as homicide, rape and robbery, and a 9% decrease in Part II crimes, including fraud, vandalism and minor assaults. The combined reductions resulted in the overall decline.

Traffic safety also improved in 2025, police said. Officers investigated 1,695 traffic collisions within city limits, a 3% decrease from the prior year.

More than 56% of those crashes were attributed to distracted driving, including cell phone use and inattention.

The city recorded one fatal traffic collision in 2025, down from four in 2024, a 75% decrease.

“This milestone reflects the hard work, dedication and professionalism of our officers and community members, who are committed to keeping our city safe every day,” Police Chief Brian Laird said. He added that expanded use of technology has helped the department prevent and solve crimes and will remain a focus moving forward.

Police said the continued decline underscores ongoing efforts to improve public safety for residents, businesses and visitors throughout Paducah.
