Paducah to celebrate completion of riverfront improvement project

PADUCAH, Ky., (KBSI) — The City of Paducah is inviting the community to celebrate the completion of its Riverfront Infrastructure Improvement Project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and family activities Friday, Sept. 18.
The project, also known as the BUILD Grant project, includes several improvements aimed at strengthening connections between downtown Paducah and the riverfront.
The celebration will begin at 4 p.m. with remarks from elected officials and project leaders, followed by a ribbon cutting at the floodwall opening on Water Street between Broadway and Jefferson Street.
Beginning around 4:30 p.m., the event will feature live music, food trucks and children’s train rides provided by the Lone Oak Lions Club. Food trucks will be available until 7:30 p.m.
At dusk, the city will host a free outdoor showing of Disney’s “Finding Dory” along the riverfront near the new terraced park space.
“This is an exciting moment for Paducah as we celebrate the completion of a project that will continue to transform vital connections between our downtown, riverfront, and the broader Paducah and Western Kentucky community,” Mayor George Bray said.
The project includes a 500-foot excursion pier and plaza, improvements near the Paducah-McCracken County Convention and Expo Centers, a multimodal pathway near the Quilt Murals, new park and seating areas near the transient dock, and new bus shelters and crosswalks.
The project was funded primarily through a $10.4 million federal BUILD grant through the U.S. Maritime Administration, along with $3.5 million in state funding.
Construction began in November 2024.
