Pedestrian dies after hit by train in Du Quoin

DU QUOIN, Ill. (KBSI) – A pedestrian died after he was struck by a train in Du Quoin early Monday morning.
Representatives from Canadian National Railroad police contacted Du Quoin police officers on February 19 at 1:28 a.m. that a 37-year-old Du Quoin man had been struck at the railroad crossing located at E. Main Street and Oak Street.
Du Quoin police officer and paramedia with the Pinckneyville Ambulance Service responded and found the man had sustained fatal injuries.
A representative from the Perry County Coroner’s Office was called to the scene.
The train was travelling southbound at the time.
Du Quoin police officers determined the man was trying to cross the tracks in a westbound direction on Main Street.
